There has been a cinema on the site of the Clapham Picturehouse cinema on Venn Street, Clapham since 1910. The first cinema was called the Electric Picture Palace, and this was due to be upgraded in 1919, but the company had to scale back plans and the enlarged cinema never opened. Subsequently, the building was taken over by a snooker hall, until it became a cinema again in 1992.
This limited edition illustration by South London Prints celebrates the Picturehouse as a great Clapham institution, and one of the best cinemas in South London. Its characterful red facade takes pride of place in the image, along with a variety of other facades along Venn Street.
