St Bartholomew's, Sydenham, lies on Westwood Hill, between Sydenham and Crystal Palace, London. Construction on the church was begun in 1827, although work was not completed until 1832. The painter Camille Pissarro spent a year in the area, and produced a number of paintings of local scenes. St Bartholomew's Church is the focal point of one of his paintings, "The Avenue, Sydenham", which hangs in the National Gallery.
